About Nikita Bambal

Can you tell me how you decided to learn about medicine ?
“ I have been fascinated by the medical profession since I was 7 years old and I always liked reading books about human physiology , and by 10th grade I was sure that I wanted to pursue medicine . There is so much to learn in this field and if one has interest in it , it’s really worth it and knowing that interacting with patients , getting to know their problems and helping them gives me immense satisfaction also motivates me”
Do you think there are any stereotypes about being a med student ?
“ Yes , I feel like there are a few stereotypes about being a med student . Some being , that college life is very boring and monotonous and that we have to study all day , but that’s actually not true at all , we do get a lot of time for extracurricular activities, fests and events in college , and clinics and postings can be a lot more fun with group studies and i’m someone who doesn’t like to read books cover to cover so video based learning and clinical rounds in the hospital help me a lot , so it’s not that we have to be reading 24/7 as many people think . And one more is that we don’t get settled early , but being a med student we have a plethora of opportunities and as the saying goes , that ‘great things take time’ clearly fits in the medical profession.
Are there any stereotypes about being a med student that do fit you and some that don’t ?
“ I do think that the stereotype that med students pursue bio because they don’t like math is kind of true for me , but I know a lot of my friends in med school that love math . Many subjects of the MBBS curriculum do have to apply math . ”
“I love my decision to be a doctor and med school is great”
