5 best Ghibli movies

Studio Ghibli, a Japanese animation company with movies to escape reality with and plunge into a world of pure fantasy and imagination. With 19 featured films there is a wide range of options for their watchers. But which ones should you watch first? How do you know which movie will satisfy you the most? It can be hard for first timers who don't know much about Ghibli, and who don't know much about the movies at all. That's why In this article, I will show you 5 of the best Ghibli movies (all on Netflix) that will guarantee you an intriguing first time. :)

Kiki’s delivery service

Would you be able to become a witch in training? 13 year old Kiki just moved to a new town with her cat Jiji for a year, in hopes to become a master at witchery from the traditions of her village. When Kiki is able to control her broomstick, she encounters Osono and Fukuo owners of a small bakery on the seaside of town, who  take Kiki in as their new delivery service. With New friendships blooming, and Kiki questioning herself as a witch, her powers suddenly become missing. Now, Kiki must overcome her self doubt and get her powers back before something tragic will happen further on in the future. Ranked in 8th place, Kiki’s delivery service is a wholesome movie of wonder, curiosity, and courage.

Whisper of the Heart

When you ask kids what they want to be when they grow up you will get a quick response, but for Shizuku, that's a whole new story. A young girl who only thinks of reading to escape reality of school and home life. One day, she remarked that all her favorite books have been checked out by a mysterious boy named “Seiji Amasawa.” Determined to find this anonymous boy who might be her soulmate, she befriends an eccentric antique dealer. Out of all the beautiful antiques, she specifically focuses on a large antique cat with gemstone eyes. This cat inspires Shizuku to write a novel about it and become a writer as her future job after countless talks with her parents about her life after school. Now, writing a novel she encounters a sarcastic boy with the name Seiji Amasawa. Although ranked in 15 place, Whisper of the heart has its fair shares of new friendships and love lives that make it a splendid movie.

When Marnie was here

Real? Or imagination? An adopted young girl named Anna is being sent away to the Oiwas in the country because of health problems and for the summer. Anna isn't very social, in fact she is much of an introvert. But one day, she meets a new friend named Marnie, with luscious blond hair and vibrant blue eyes, Marnie's elegance must be too good to be true. As their friendship grows stronger, Anna may soon realize that her and Marnie have closer ties than she might think. When Marnie was there isn't a very popular movie that is talked about a lot, even though it's ranked in 16 place just behind whisper of the heart. But this movie has a lot of deep stories from each character in the movie.

Secret world of Arrietty

Tiny humans? What in the world!? Arrietty, a tiny teenage borrower who lives with her parents in a suburban home undiscovered by the homeowner or housekeeper. Like other borrowers, Arrietty and her family must be hidden by humans, especially when borrowing sugar cubes and other supplies from the humans home. Arrietty grew up believing that humans are terrifying and cold hearted, but that changes when a friendship blooms between her and a 12 year old human boy named Sho who is the grandson of the homeowner. But Arrietty's friendship with Sho can lead to serious danger to Arrietty and her family. Ranked 14th place, the secret life of Arrietty is very underrated and this movie deserves so much more love and attention than what it has now.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the wind

What is this ecosystem? Diving into the future, after an apocalypse has damaged most of the world's ecosystem the last few surviving humans are scattered around and live in somewhat healthy environments within what is called the “toxic jungle” Nausicaä, a princess lives amongst her people in the arid of the valley of the wind and has a special ability to communicate with the insects who live in the toxic jungle. With the guidance and advice of the vetran warrior Lord Yupa, Nausicaä is on her way to bring peace back to the world, even with a challenging obstacle that she will have to face. Ranked 7th place and being the oldest movie in studio ghibli, Nausicaä and her companions all have a powerful character and what i like about this movie is that none of the characters are willing to give up no matter how challenging it will get because they are focused on one thing, “bringing peace to the world” and eager to find the solution.

Studio Ghibli has a lot to share and give and these movies are just a fragment of the admirable projects Ghibli has created over the years. I specifically chose these movies not only because of my own liking,  but because I believe these movies are neglected just because they haven't been recommended to people. These movies are very underrated for the heartening plots and characters. I hope this article will help spread the love and appreciation for these movies I have shared with you. :)
