New people are the worst, am I right? Spoken Podcast Episode 1
In today's episode, we interviewed one person from the seventh grade that has moved many times before. Listen to the podcast to learn about the various challenges and the journey she had to take.
Moving is something that about 3.5 million people have to go through yearly. And since ZIS is an international school, many people move away or move to ZIS. The effects on a child's psychology are immense. Psychology Today, a journal about the minds and psychology of people, shows that moving away from home makes people feel great discomfort.
Moving is tough for kids and may disrupt important friendships. According to the article in Psychology Today, introverted kids are those who are most affected by moving. This is because introverted people aren't exactly comfortable talking to people. Psychology Today also shows a study that adults who have moved frequently have a lower rate of strong friendships and overall satisfaction of life.
There are many ways of helping kids that have moved for them to gain more trust in their peers. For example, the bench buddy. Many schools in America have made a bench for people that don't have anyone to play with during recess. Creating this bench is beneficial because the kid that would supposedly sit on this bench would have a bench buddy (a person that would talk to them). Therefore, the less extroverted kids can regain their trust.
