Social Events: More or Fewer?
Imagine having parties for every holiday, dressing up and dancing with your friends, smelling the gingerbread men at Christmas, and walking by ridiculously dressed up classmates and teachers at Halloween. Or feeling the summer breeze while running around at a sports event. Having fun and being among friends is what its all really about.
“Yes. As a new family, social events are a valuable time to meet new people and get plugged into the community.” Says Annie Lu, mom of a 7th grader. The majority of students and parents agree that having more social events would benefit the ZIS community by making new friends and having fun experiences. “I do [want more social events] because I think it’s such fun to meet new people!” says Lila Hsu, a 5th-grade student.
However some people thought social events wouldn’t be a good idea. “No, because our social life is busy enough. I would like to have charity events, but more time-consuming parties are useless. We have enough to do!” 2 out of 10 parents interviewed, said this. They know what is to do every day apart from going to work and school. The hustle and the time they don’t have for all the problems and tasks that crop up.
Social events such as a disco, a ball, or a prom could be a great improvement to the school. What would others prefer? “I'd rather have a Disco because you can dance around with your friends and make fools of ourselves,” said a 10th grader. Most people chose to have a disco, but what about the other choices? When asked if prom would be a good choice, Mr. Taylor said: “I think prom is a good idea because it's fun to watch kids standing around awkwardly and the people who asked each other out not talking.” Sadly, even if we would add any of these events, we would have to wait until after Covid-19.
Social events would improve the ZIS community greatly. Why would you want to have more social events? Is it because of all the delicious snacks and funny costumes? Imagine one of the teachers dressed up as a unicorn or as a sumo wrestler! Social events would be fun and a great laugh for everyone, uniting the ZIS community is what its all really about.
